Mircea Eliade refers very often to the Eternal Return; he quotes Paracelsus “he who wants to enter the kingdom of god must first enter with his body inside the mother and die there”.
It is a common initiation technique for shamans to get into a cave for a long periods of time, without any food and sometimes helped by substances.Then these special beings come back to be the wise men the world recognizes.
From Jesus Christ, to Matsyendranath, all prophets undergo the death of the body as a step to strengthen the spirit.
This pieces are casts of a human body in fetal position made out of hay, ceramics and latex. These materials have different ways of decomposing but they are in a way returning to the essential entity, the “mother” earth.
